The U.S. EPA had on their web site since 1999 and before that Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. In all these years, the U.S. EPA has only suggested that New Home Builders build to Radon-Resistant Standards. Radon-Resistant Construction helps to keep whatever is under and around the foundation of a house from becoming part of the occupants' living environment.
You would think that the U.S EPA, in an effort to protect the general public, would demand rather than suggest New Home Builders use Radon-Resistant Construction when building a house. The results are shameful. Click on the following link to see how many New Home Builders, broken down by State, in the United States that care enough about the safety of the general public to use Radon-Resistant Construction Techniques:

Thank you for including radon gas in your discussions. Every home should be tested and action taken to reduce radon levels found in the home.
